Commencing or recommencing classes after an injury or surgery?
Commencing or recommencing classes after an injury or surgery?
We often have new clients at Kynd who have injured themselves and need to find a new form of exercise. Welcome! If it is a serious injury, please make sure your health care professional has given you the all-clear to return to exercise. Please let us know whether your provider has advised you to avoid certain movements or practises or if there is anything else we should know. We will make a note in your file so that all our angels can support you in class. If something changes, please keep us updated.
Been a while between classes?
We understand it can be daunting to step back into the group fitness environment after a period of time off. The best time to start is now! Try to let go of any expectations you have of yourself and your body. It's so much easier to stay consistent rather than to stop and start again so please do not judge yourself for taking time off (no matter how long), we're just happy that you're back! We have no expectations on you at all, come as you are (and often, you'll surprise yourself)
Pregnancies
Pregnancies
Congratulations! If you're feeling well and your pregnancy is uncomplicated, you're welcome to join any of our classes. We stay up-to-date with the latest pregnancy exercise literature to ensure a safe yet functional practice for you. Claudia, Aillie, Caroline, Helen, Salome are mums themselves but all of our team are trained to look after you. Claudia has a special interest in yoga, Pilates and barre and physiological birth outcomes - be sure to chat to her about her thoughts, resources and recommended local practitioners.
Postpartum
We believe in honouring the sacred space that is the immediate postpartum bubble. If you're feeling ready to re-emerge, you're welcome to join us from 6 weeks (for an uncomplicated physiological birth) or from 8 weeks as directed by your women's health professional for uncomplicated c-sections. We DO NOT promote bounce-back culture and we will encourage you to spend time with your baby especially in the early weeks and months.
Mums & Bubs
When you do feel ready to come out into the world, our mums & bubs class is a great place to start. We offer barre classes for mums + babes as these classes are carrier-friendly (meaning you can exercise with your baby on you the whole time). We also believe that pregnancy and birth are such expansive experiences that it's really nice to bring your body back together through practices like Pilates and barre.
Abdominal Thinning (SEPARATION/DIASTISIS RECTI)
The latest evidence suggests that flexion work is more effective in bringing the abdominal wall back together after growing a baby and for this reason, we include this work in all classes. Please let us know if your women's health professional has advised against this (and why) so that we can ensure you are getting the most out of your postpartum movement. Remember postpartum is forever! There's no rush x
