Teaching of the Month (TOTM)

Welcome to our first official “Teaching of the Month.” This has been an idea for years and years and years and finally, last year, I plonked this idea down into a project management board and said “this is the year that we execute this.”

Back in 2023, I had a brand-new chunky newborn and limited teaching capacity. If you know me and our family personally, you know that I try to enrich Ernie’s childhood with as much magic as possible and this looks like celebrating the changing seasons, festivals throughout the year and really digging into the meaning behind certain traditions to create our own that resonate for our family.

Ernie was 3 months old around Easter Time in 2023 and I found myself really struggling with the Easter concept of bunnies and eggs and spring in our Southern Hemisphere Autumn. I ended up learning more about the true meaning of Easter and how we can all consider the archetype or qualities of this time, whether we choose to celebrate or not and how we choose to celebrate or not.

At this same time, I asked the team if they were struggling for philosophy and inspiration to weave into their classes and whether a little bank would be useful from my brain to their hearts. It was unanimous that some scaffolding and alignment with the seasons, the planets and just celebrations and festivals would be useful and support their class planning.

And the seed of “Teaching of the Month” (TOTM) was created.

With the evolution of the studios and the proliferation of the physical practices at the moment (reformer, reformer, reformer, faster, harder, more, more, more), it seems like the perfect time to launch and share with you some philosophy.

Some timeless teachings and ancient wisdom that you can take with you off the mat (and off the reformer) and into your actual life where it will truly make a difference.

I’ve been observing the rise of reformer lately and noticing how, just like anything, if we’re not conscious, we will lose the essence of the practice.

The essence of Kynd is yoga and pilates.

The essence of yoga and pilates is personal transformation and liberation.

The essence of personal transformation is to at some point: get beyond your body.

The body is the key.

You need it to unlock your mind, your energy and your spirit.

These monthly teachings will help you get there.
